PART 2 : Online Tools and Apps Compatible with Chromebooks

Not all online tools work with Chrome. In addition, just because they work with the Chrome browser, does not mean they work with Chromebook. Below online tools are compatible with the Chrome books.
  • Stupeflix -Make vidoes in minutes. Just add photos, videos, music, and text.
  • WeVideo- free online video creator
  • Online Voice Recorder -  a free simple application which records sound from microphone. After recording you can trim the sound and save it to your computer.
  • Twisted Wave- audio editor;r un TwistedWave without having to download or install anything. Launch it directly from your web browser, and continue editing your files where you left them
  • Cacoo Diagrams- create just about anything from wireframes to mind maps, flow charts to presentations.
  • Voice Thread ***- totally web-based application that allows you to place collections of media like images, videos, documents, and presentations at the center of an asynchronous conversation. A Voice Thread allows people to have conversations and to make comments using any mix of text, a microphone, a web cam, a telephone, or uploaded audio file.
  • Penzu Online Journal- create online personal journals; great for reflection and journaling in class.


  • Creately***- diagramming software tool in which mind mapping and diagramming can be done simultaneously by a group
  • Mind Meister *- online mind (concept) mapping
  • Mindomo Mapping*- another online mind mapping application
  • Spider Scribe*** -sualize your ideas by connecting various pieces of information together. Unlike other mind mapping applications, SpiderScribe allows you to create free-style maps by connecting your stencils in any way.
  • Canva- simple and user freindly online graphic design tools
  • Pixlr app- a variety of online, user friendly photo editing tools
  • Padlet Board- sticky notes for online collaboration
  • Symbaloo- organize and create collections of links for any purpose
  • Live BInder- curate and organize your resources in an online binder
  • Edublogs - create and share blogs for students ( Word press compatible)
  • Zamzar Converter for Chrome - can be used online or as an extension; allows conversion from files and from URLs

  • Polarr-online photo editor
  • Storyboard That*- online digital storytelling program
  • Clipular Screen Caster- create screen capture of any web page; adjustable and customizable size for screenshots
  • Fotor Collage Maker - edit photos, create collages or design postcards out of your pics
  • Animoto* app- create vidoes from photos by adding audio and titles; simple and user friendly
  • Online Video Converter- convert any video file to extension of your choice ( mp3, mp4, AVI etc)
  • Diigo -aggregator; allows you to collect, curate, organize and share web sites through bookmarking
  • Lino It Online Stickies* app- Lino allows posting and sharing of notes and pictures in a canvas that can be done in real time or asynchronously
  • Kaizena Feedback- Kaizena is a very cool feedback tool. IT provides a way to track student progress or rubric criteria and provide voice feedback to which students can respond
  • Slide Snack Slideshow Sharing-Upload your presentation as PDF Embed and share your presentation Record and share a slidecast (presentation+voice)


  • Magisto Video Editing app- online tool for creating movies
  • Move Note for Ed app-a tool for teachers and student  It can be used to flip the classroom, practice presenting, practice new languages, share information and teach from a distance. Movenote is easy to use through your Google Drive , making it  simple to create and share presentations
  • PhotoPeach Slideshows* -Quickly upload photos and make slideshows. Embed in your blog or website. Easily share your shows  via email, IM, Facebook.
  • PowToon *- presentation tools that uses animated characters ( kind of like xtranormal used too)

  • Evernote- provides a workspace to take notes and write everything from lists to research papers; sync across devices; Clip web articles, capture handwritten notes, and snap photos to keep the physical and digital details of your projects with you at all times; share across devices and with others.  Use for professional learning and note taking. Students can use it for notetaking and project collaboration.


PART 3 - Chrome  Extensions

Chrome Extensions are tools that live inside of your Chrome Browser and provide additional functionality by connecting to other web utilities.

  • Adblock Plus- Eliminates advertisements on the web.
  • Appjump-App launcher is one place to see and organize all your chrome apps
  • Chromecast-Share your Chrome browser or entire screen to your Chromecast.
  • Docs Quickly-Allows you to quickly create a new Google Document, Presentation, Spreadsheet or Drawing.
  • Dropbox-Provides easy access to your Dropbox account and files as well.
  • Tab Cloud-allows you to save the tabs that you have open. Simply open all the tabs you want for your presentation/class, save them with TabCloud, and then when it comes time to present or for your class, open up TabCloud and click on the tabs you want to appear.
  • Quick Mark QR Code-lets kids go to QR codes by right clicking on them, so you can send out a list of resources they can easily access with out having a tablet or smartphone.
  • Ginger Spellchecker-corrects your spelling and grammar.

  • Evernote Clearly-Ieliminate all of the clutter on any given website, leaving just the content.
  • Google Translate-Translate entire web pages with one click
  • Alice K Gradebook Split-
  • extension to open your gradebook in a new tab on the right side of the split screen and push all other open tabs to the left.
  • Kindle Cloud Reader- an app that allows you access to your Kindle Books from your web browser.
  • Last Pass-free online password manager and form filler that makes your web browsing easier and more secure.
  • Tab Scissors-lets you divide your Chrome browser window in two - great when you want to compare documents or websites side by side.
  • Pick Monkey-On a website that has pictures that you want to grab, click the PicMonkey button and all of the pictures on the site will appear as buttons. Selecting the picture that you wish to alter and save will pull that picture into a new PicMonkey tab in which you can choose to make modifications to the picture

  • One Tab- Whenever you have too many tabs, One Tab converts them all into a list saving “up to 95% of memory.”
  • QR Reader Beta-scan a QR code fast and directly from right click (context) menu of your browser
  • Read and Write***-his extension will highlight as it read aloud your Google Docs. It also provides a Dictionary, Picture Finder, Fact Finder, Translator, Highlighter, and Vocabulary tool.
  • Save as PDF-Lets you download web pages into PDF format.
  • Screen Leap-allows you to share your screen with anyone from Gmail.
  • Pronunciation tools-online chrome app for word pronunciation
  • Announcify-With the click of the happy little eyes button, it converts web articles into speech, opens them in a new tab, and reads without having to select any text. The key feature is that it blurs out the text that is not being read making it easy to track while listening. Options for the extension include adjusting speech volume, pitch and rate.
  • Select and Speak-will narrate any web text to students. They can highlight sections and have it read to them at various speeds.
  • Send to Google Docs-take any webpage and turn it into PDF that you can send straight to Google Docs.
  • Snapify- enables contextual web browsing through image markers and word highlights. All you need to do is highlight a word or click an image marker and 'Snap It'.  Snapify will then open up its search box with results from mainstream search engines such as Google, Twitter, Wikipedia, Google News, and even Maps
  • Search by Image-Right click on an image to search Google for it.
  • Speak It-Select text, and it will read it to you.
  • You tube options***- disables ads, annotations, and auto-play; changes resolution, display size, optional flash pre-buffering, looping/replay, SSL.
  • Readibilty- turns any web page into a comfortable reading view right in your web browser. It eliminates ads and other information that can be confusing
